The President of the United States visits the Smokies!
On Wednesday February 21, 2001 President George W. Bush made his first official visit to Tennessee when he visited Townsend in the Great Smokies, and SmokyPhotos was there, not as an event photographer, but to provide photos on the backdrop posters for the stage presentation. Event Rentals of Knoxville, the rental equipment and caterer for the White House, Secret Service, and Communications Office contacted me and asked me for some photos to place on the presidential podium. The purpose was to show America the beauty of the park as the President gave his address on education reform! I was happy and excited to agree, and stayed up most of Monday night getting the photos ready and uploaded to the printer. The photos were enlarged and place on each side of the platform, and from all firsthand reports, looked very nice. I was proud and honored to to be able to serve the President, even in such a small way! I hope that his trip was pleasant, and that he and Mrs. Bush enjoyed their trip to the Great Smoky Mountains!
